The 2022 group Swearing-In Ceremony will take place on Friday October 28 at 1:00 p.m.
After the Swearing-In ceremony there will be a brief reception for new attorneys and court officials, followed by an additional program, Bridge The Gap, from 2:30 to 4:30, designed for the new attorneys and at which they will have the opportunity to hear more about our court system and processes here in Durham.
Those who are bringing family members and/or special guests may wish to have lunch and visit prior to the ceremony, as new attorneys will move directly into the reception and education elements following the photo-opportunity which concludes the formal ceremony. As there is sufficient parking in the deck adjacent to the courthouse, it may be useful to arrange separate transportation in advance for your guests.
The afternoon event from 2:30 - 4:30 is typically attended by those who intend to work in Durham County. It is designed to familiarize local attorneys with the courthouse building, its officials, their staff, and typical processes for conducting business in the building and legal-adjacent spaces. Those who are practicing elsewhere or have already acquired this knowledge from internships or other work in the courthouse may find it less useful and wrap up after the photo opportunity.
All attorneys intending to be presented to the court must complete the form located at this link: New Attorney Information Form. You must return it to the event coordinator at info@durhambar.org no later than Tuesday, October 26, at 5:00 p.m. You will be matched with a presenter unless you indicate on the form that you have one already. All new attorneys assigned a presenter, must respond to their presenter's contact and spend a few minutes with this presenter via Zoom or phone in order to prepare to be presented.
